You may also be selected for a special duty assignment, which could be anything from working on presidential aircraft to being a part of an elite search and rescue team.

Basic Training

After completing tech school, Airmen will attend basic military training. Basic military training is eight and a half weeks long and is held at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Job Training

After you complete tech school, you’ll receive job training specific to your Air Force career. Job training may last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, and you will likely be stationed at a base close to where you attended tech school. Once you’ve completed your job training, you will be assigned to a permanent duty station.

Advanced Training

After you finish tech school, you will move on to advanced training. During this time, you will learn more about your specific job in the Air Force. Advanced training can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

Specialty Training

Specialty Training is where you will learn the specific skills needed for your chosen career field. For example, if you are training to be a mechanic, you will learn how to repair and maintain aircraft engines. The duration of this training varies depending on your chosen field, but it is typically around 6 months.

Conclusion

The end of tech school marks the beginning of your career in the Air Force. You will be assigned to a duty station where you will put your training to use. You may be able to choose your duty station, or you may be assigned to one. You will serve at your duty station for three to four years before being reassigned.
